Organisation

Minority Communities Addiction Support Services (MCASS) provide tailored support service for men and women aged between 18 - 75 with addiction and drugs misuse from the Black Minority Ethnic (BME) communities in Greater Glasgow. MCASS addresses the struggles a person with substance misuse may have within the BME communities they come from, especially around, and not exclusively to, risk of being ostracised by the community, religious structures, and tainting the family honour. MCASS provides a confidential, multi-lingual, person centred approach. They offer counselling, training and recreational activities, run by staff members who come from a BME background and/or signpost to agencies that have an understanding of their cultural background and addiction concerns. Outreach Van Capital Project

One of MCASS’s services involves visiting clients either in their homes and/or at a mutually agreed safe location, to support them and their families through their addiction related issues. This includes taking clients to GP and hospital appointments; supporting clients to job interviews and/or training events; attend classes in further education courses; take them to recreational activities and more. The vehicle enables the staff to be more mobile and accessible where required. A grant of £15,000 was awarded.
