Proactive Funding
News

In early 2026, we were delighted to be able to announce that our Disability Equity programme portfolio was completed. As part of our 2023-2027 strategy, and in line with our Racial Equity and Economic Equity programmes, our Disability Equity programme provides multi-year core funding to help organisations implement or adapt their strategies and strengthen their operations to directly address the discrimination which Disabled People experience.
We recognise that the barriers faced by Disabled People are a key driver of inequity in the UK. The Disability Equity programme builds on our expertise in funding both equity organisations and infrastructure organisations. It is also rooted in our awareness that disability discrimination intersects with other injustices, and that this has a profound impact on Disabled People’s participation and inclusion. These factors led us to focus the programme on Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations (DDPOs). The design of the programme was influenced by the work of organisations including Disability Rights UK, Inclusion London and ALLFIE (The Alliance for Inclusive Education), with whom we are now extremely proud to be working. We were also inspired and encouraged by the work done by peers such as Trust for London.
Over the next three years, The Clothworkers Foundation will be working with ALLFIE (The Alliance for Inclusive Education), Deaf and Ethnic Women Association (DEWA), Disability Wales / Anabledd Cymru and Inclusion London. The programme will be supported by a learning partner, Disability Rights UK.
The work of these organisations is anchored in the Social Model of Disability and principles of Disability Justice, and we are supporting their strategic efforts to significantly take forward their work to dismantle barriers for individual Disabled People and/or Disabled People as a community, so that more people can fully participate, with maximum autonomy, in society. Each are working in different ways, but all are doing so in a complex and changing social and political context. As we learn from them, we will continue to improve our own practices and understanding of Disability Equity and Disability Justice as an organisation.
Thank you to our Trustees and Staff overseeing and managing the Disability Equity programme: Ola Opoosun, Susanna O'Leary , Dr. Kenny Imafidon MBE, Dhruv Patel CBE, Hugo Slim, Jocelyn Stuart-Grumbar, Jenny North, Nelly Koko-Konan.
Most importantly, thank you to our new partners who engaged so honestly with us during the assessment and due diligence phase: ALLFIE, DEWA, Disability Wales, Inclusion London and Disability Rights UK.
